English Springer Spaniel — a family dog?
Can a gundog also be a good family companion?
Yes! 🙂 English Springer Spaniels are intelligent, cheerful dogs, often gentle with children and other animals, and deeply devoted to their families. Their affectionate temperament and joyful nature can make them wonderful companions for an active family. As with every breed, children and dogs need appropriate supervision and respectful handling.

Springers have a wonderfully positive outlook. They love games and affection and are often ready for both at any moment. 🙂 They can form close bonds with children and enjoy playing together.

When our first English Springer Spaniel puppy, sweetly named Holly, arrived, we were completely enchanted. She loved sleeping beside our then two-year-old son and playing chase with him. It was wonderful to watch them grow up together. A year later, their games changed: retrieving took over, bringing out the Springer in Holly. Our son would throw toys or a Frisbee, sometimes across the garden and sometimes into water, and Holly would always bring them back to his feet. We loved watching them then and still do, because the games have never really stopped. We like the saying that English Springer Spaniels are like crisps — one is never enough! In time, two more Springers joined our family. Our son plays differently with each of them, but Julia seems particularly devoted to him. She follows him everywhere, always ready to play, and her delight when he comes home from school is impossible to describe.
